Hey! This is my first post in a really long time! But these are strange times, and in my world, it feels better to do something... rather than sit and wait for the wave. Friends, lets get our surfboards out and ride this wave, don't let it crash over you.
I am going to continue to post what I find helpful in my internet travels. This episode of The Rise podcast is business related, but it can absolutely apply to your personal and family life. I hope there is something in it that you find helpful.
Rise Podcast episode 138 "How to Disaster-Proof Your Business During the Coronavirus and Beyond". Please bear in mind, these are fluid times, so some of Rachel Hollis' information may not feel completely to date, but there are some gems in this episode.
This is an abbreviated version of Rachel's advice:
"Now is the time to prove our worth" - we are in business to serve our clients/customers and our employees. Now more than ever we need to focus on them. She states "Obsess over your clients, not the news".
"Take care of your team" - I think this also really applies to your family. Have a plan, communicate your plan, check-in with everyone. Rachel suggests reading "The Hard Thing About Hard Things" by Ben Horowitz, particularly the chapter on "The War Time General vs. The Peace Time General". She suggests that in times of insecurity you have to be a different type of leader, you have to be "The War Time General".
"Get Creative" - Think of this as a chance to really put your customer and your community first. Find ways to serve. "This is an incredible opportunity to think outside of the box". *She makes some suggestions in this section, that may not be following our provincial and federal health authorities current policies, obviously please use your discretion and follow our federal and provincial Ministers instructions.
"Cash is Queen" and "No New Things" - she has these as separate ideas, but really they are one in the same. Limit your expenses, and focus on your core values and services within your company.
"Create a plan" - make it a "living document" that will be fluid with time.
"Triple down on the kindness you put out into the world" - As she says "we are in this together", find ways to chose JOY.
